We were excited to visit the new location on Anastasia Blvd. The building looks fresh, the interior warm. The food was great. We enjoyed appetizers and entrees, I had the filet mignon with peppercorn sauce, my wife enjoyed the crab cakes. Our guest had the short rib. The creme brulee was delicious. The Gypsy Cab was a great restaurant, the vision of one our city's great chef/owners who retired years ago and with a new owner in the kitchen they will have a successful future. The service was also excellent.
Overview
Walking into Purple Olive Restaurant & Catering feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that locals quietly guard as their own. Tucked along the coast at 4255 A1A S, St. Augustine, FL 32080, United States, itβs the kind of place where the staff remembers returning guests and the menu balances comfort with a few thoughtful surprises. Iβve stopped in more than once after a long beach walk, and each visit had the same easy rhythm-unrushed service, familiar faces, and plates that arrive hot and generous.
The menu leans into classic American diner favorites while giving a nod to coastal Florida. Breakfast is a standout, especially for early risers heading to nearby Anastasia Island. Eggs arrive cooked exactly as ordered, pancakes are fluffy rather than flat, and the omelets are packed instead of skimpy. One server explained that they crack eggs fresh each morning and prep vegetables in small batches to keep flavors clean, a simple process that makes a noticeable difference. Lunch shifts gears with sandwiches, burgers, and wraps that feel filling without being heavy, and daily specials rotate based on availability and season.
What really sets the kitchen apart is the attention to basics. Sauces are house-made sauces, soups are simmered rather than poured from a bag, and sides like coleslaw or potatoes are treated as part of the meal instead of an afterthought. According to research from the National Restaurant Association, diners consistently rate freshness and consistency as two of the top factors influencing repeat visits, and this spot clearly understands that. Every plate Iβve had tasted like it came from a system that values repetition done right.
Catering is another area where this restaurant quietly shines. A local community center nearby uses Purple Olive Restaurant & Catering for events ranging from small business lunches to family celebrations. I attended a retirement brunch catered by them, and the spread was impressive without being overcomplicated-scrambled eggs that stayed fluffy, pastries that werenβt dried out, and coffee that kept flowing. The staff coordinated delivery and setup with minimal fuss, which matters more than people realize when feeding a crowd. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention often emphasize safe food handling during large events, and seeing gloves, temperature-controlled trays, and clear labeling in action builds confidence.
Location plays a role in its appeal too. Being right on A1A makes it an easy stop whether youβre a tourist heading toward the historic district or a local commuting along the coast. Parking is straightforward, and the dining room feels casual enough for beach attire while still welcoming families and older guests. Reviews across popular dining platforms frequently mention friendly service and reliable portions, and that consistency shows up in real life, not just online.
From an expertise standpoint, the kitchen follows straightforward methods that experienced cooks respect: prepping early, cooking to order, and avoiding unnecessary shortcuts. Thereβs no attempt to chase trends, and that restraint works in its favor. At the same time, itβs fair to note a limitation-those looking for avant-garde cuisine or plant-only menus might find options more traditional than experimental. Still, for a diner-style restaurant focused on dependable food and genuine hospitality, thatβs hardly a drawback.
The overall experience feels honest. The menu, the location, the catering service, and the steady stream of positive reviews all point to a place that understands its role in the community. Itβs not trying to be everything to everyone, just a reliable restaurant that feeds people well and treats them like neighbors-and thatβs exactly why people keep coming back.

Party of 8 for dinner last night. Everything, and I mean everything, was delicious. Picasso made sure everything was just right before seating us. Our server, Emmet, was friendly and attentive. We had the bread service, the Brie and the roasted olives as apps and every plate was wiped clean. Pictured is my dinner, Gorgonzola crusted bone in pork chop with mashed potatoes and grilled zucchini. It was so good. Others in our party had the chicken Parm, braised short ribs, ginger soy tofu, paella, salmon and the scallops. They were all winners! Reservations suggested and totally worth it!
Great experience at the new purple olive on Anastasia blvd . Great app. Drinks and food . Service was great Cheryl . Will be back . Beautiful venue. Great decor
We tried purple olive for the first time since moving to Saint Augustine. We were not disappointed. We originally had a reservation for 7:45 but decided to sit in the bar. The ambiance was intimate and our waiter Doug was very attentive. We started with the trio app and it was delicious. We ordered the stuffed chicken breast and the filet. Both were excellent. We will definitely be back.
Are second time there. Just as enjoyable as the first. Very simple beach vibe atmosphere. Are server Cinda was polite, attentive & did a great job. Appetizer was the PEI Muscles. Do yourself a solid and order bread or a few extra crustiness. Your going to need it for the broth. I had the Paella and it was great. Everything cooked perfectly specially the seafood. Which can easily be over cooked in this dish. My wife had the Blackened Ahi Tuna. Perfect perfect perfect. All the food is perfectly prepared and cooked. Delicious Perfect Good Vibes . Looking forward to seeing & eating at the new place.
The food was delicious. I had salmon with creamy Dijon sauce and my husband had macadamia crusted Mahi. Cooked perfectly and delicious. We sat at the side bar and Tara and Cinda were a great team. They were attentive and made sure my meal was exactly what I wanted. My only complaint is that the acoustics are terrible. It is so loud you canβt have a conversation. It is so loud in there that when I had called earlier the hosted could not hear me. It was a little better in the side bar but still a little loud.
Second time eating at The Purple Olive. We took advantage of the prix fixed menu today and the food was outstanding. We started with the romaine salad which was crisp and fresh. We ordered short ribs and salmon for our entrees both were delicious and the desserts were amazing! We got the key lime pie, chocolate ganache cake, and crΓ¨me brΓ»lΓ©e. You canβt go wrong with any menu item. Our server was Emmitt, he greeted us with a smile, knew the menu inside out and was very responsive to all of our needs. I let him choose our desserts and his recommendations were spot on. The Purple Olive is our new fav in St. A!!
